After each season of harvesting the pineapple, looking at the huge amount of pineapple leaves be discarded in the field, Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh (31 years old, in Nghe An province, Vietnam) has researched to create the machine that separates the pineapple leaves into yarn as a textile material.

Mr.Hanh witnessed the scene of his hometown farmers struggling because despite being in good pineapple season, loss devalues. The farmers had to left ripe pineapples on the tree that couldn’t be harvested. He determined to do something to change this. In 2015, he decided to quit his job as a ship captain with a salary of 30 million VND/month to go back to his hometown, bought 3 hectares of hilly land to grow pineapples.

He applied modern drying machines and systems to process pineapples into diverse products such as dried pineapple, pineapple jam, pineapple syrup, sugar-pickled pineapple, pineapple to treat cough… His products become accepted in the market enthusiastically. After that, he invested in the planting area to tens of hectares which steadily harvesting over 300 tons of pineapple/year.

Not stopping there, he also found a way to use the pineapple leaves discarded in the field. Working with mechanics, after months of testing, he finally perfected the machine for separating pineapple leaves into the fiber.

“The machine includes a system of knives which helps to break the mesophyll, keeping the leaf fibers. This machine can separate 2-3 tons of pineapple leaves per day. After that, fibers are soaked in pineapple vinegar, dried, spliced, spun … Many manufacturers of bags and fashion products have ordered this yarn“ said Hanh.
